Short Courses

Business Abroad is a series of Spring semester courses combined with faculty-led short-term study abroad experiences. Students enrolled in Business Abroad courses meet once a week during the Spring semester before their study abroad experience to gain the necessary background knowledge. During Spring Break or during the Summer term, students will travel with a DSU College of Business faculty member who incorporates experiential learning into the course. Classes may also meet after returning to the US to engage in capstone activities.

Business Abroad experiences include lectures, visits to businesses, and cultural and historic sites designed to expose students to other cultures and business practices. These 10-21 day trips are ideal for students who are unable to participate in semester abroad programs due to work or family commitments.

Students stay in budget hotels or youth hostels. They learn to navigate using the local public transportation systems when available and eat local foods. They visit local industries to learn about the economy of the country and understand the workplace culture. Lectures by local faculty members help students put into context what they see. Presentations by government officials and economic development experts help students understand the role of the country on the world stage.
